• Known more in high school for other sports in addition to football and listed as 1948-49 State Athlete of the Year

During college:

• St. Mary’s College &  Arizona State for college

Post-college:

• Led Detroit Lions to NFL championship 1959
• Rushed for more than 1,000 yards twice for Steelers
• Pro FB Hall of Fame 1987
